HOME IS WHERE THE FUND IS

HOME IS WHERE THE FUND IS

I have been thinking a lot about how power works, and how it is so often denied from certain individuals in society due to our miseducation about gender. What is power? How is it different from privilege? What can a marginalized group of people do to grow power and avoid replicating oppressive structures that are dictated by the status quo? How can we fund power-building initiatives as marginalized people?

I can't say I have the answers to all these questions but I am eternally grateful to have found Access Reproductive Care - Southeast (ARC-Southeast), a community organization here in Atlanta that has been working through these same issues to make safe, compassionate, and affordable reproductive care accessible to Southerners. Their revolutionary work has inspired me to launch the Community Partnerships series, where I will pair with organizations like ARC-Southeast to create one-of-a-kind art prints that reflect their mission and aspirations. All the profits from these sales will be donated to the partnering organization as a token of our collective appreciation for the work they do.

From the Civil Rights Movement of yesteryear to the incredible advocacy work being done today, the South was, and always will be, the cradle of modern civilization. Needless to say, I am beyond honored to lend my talents to this growing movement for real, sustainable change!

Visit the ARC-Southeast webpage to learn more about the work they do, and follow them on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for action updates.
